1- Spelling test on Monday. a) au b) aux c) au revoir d) aujourd'hui e) aussi 2- Duo-tang "les phrases" should get signed weekly. 2 spelling have gone home to get corrected (5 times each word misspelled) and signed. 3- Reading Comprehension : Next Tuesday, students will have to read and answer questions own their own. The use of a dictionary is permitted. We have done 2 reading comprehensions in class already. The one they will do on their own will be similar to those ones. 4- Read in French 10 minutes per day . 5- Le son "é" - Review all sounds in the duo-tang (Les sons). Sciences Humaines : We are reviewing "les capitales, les continents et les océans". Students wrote a test last Thursday. They will get them back on Monday.

Students have library books in French and their cahier de sons that they can use. 5- Reading Comprehension: We have done 2 in class. Next Tuesday, students will be doing one on their own. The use of a dictionary is permitted. There are 5 questions. 6- Oral testing: today, tomorrow and Friday, students will be tested on basic questions: a) Comment ça va ? (How are you ?) b) Comment t'appelles-tu ? (What is your name ?) c) Quel âge as-tu ? (How old are you?) d) Quand est ta fête ? (When is your birthday ?) These are review questions. Today, students have written 4 more questions which will be tested next week : 1- De quelle couleur sont tes cheveux ? (What colour is your hair ?) 2- De quelle couleur sont tes yeux ? (What colour are your eyes ?) 3- Où habites-tu ? (Where do you live ?) 4- Combien y a-t-il de personnes dans ta famille ? (How many people are there in your family ?) SCIENCES HUMAINES : 1- Tomorrow is test day ! Students will have access to a word bank. They need to put on a map the 10 provinces and 3 territories. 2- We have been reviewing capitals, directions, continents and oceans. Français :

This letter is pronounced like the word "et". (Example: Mon père et ma mère sont gentils.) Sciences Humaines : Test on Thursday on "les provinces et les territoires du Canada". Student will have a word bank. They will need to place on a map. Français : 1- Test on Spelling words on Monday. The words are : a) il aime b) un ami c) une amie d) aller e) après. Every Monday students get 5 new spelling words. Using these words, they need to write 5 sentences (one sentence for each word). I give different examples with each word on a regular basis in class. These sentences are to be completed and passed in on Wednesday (so I can mark them). For now, because it is only September, I am focusing on capital letters, ponctuation, spelling words are spelled correctly and if the sentences make sens (for the most part). Students should also get their duo-tang signed weekly after they get their marks for their sentences. As we progress, the focus will change to grammar, adding adjectives, etc. I'll let you know what I'll be looking for. 2- Read en français 10 minutes per day. Students may use their library book or their duo-tang "Les sons". 3- Les sons - This week was the sound "e". Last week was the sound "a". We review these in class daily. Students will be asked to read individually the same sentences that are in their "les sons" duo-tang. I have started with both class. 4- Reading comprehension: focus is on different types of questions (repérage; inférence et réaction). We have completed one together as a class. They are working on one with a classmate and next week, they will be asked to answer one on their own. Sciences Humaines : Test on Thursday, Sept. 28th on Les provinces et les territoires du Canada. Students received a sheet for the son "e". They can practice reading this sheet and the sound "a". I have started to call students to my desk to have them read the sentences that are on the sheet for the sound "a". 3. Read in French at least 10 min per day. Students can use their "cahier des sons" or their library book. Mme Schofield's class will be going to the library this Wednesday for French books. 4. This week, we will continue reading comprehension. We will be talking about different types of questions (repérages - answer is in the text ; inférences (read between the lines) - there are clues in the text and using their heads (making connections); réactions - write what they think and explain). Sciences Humaines : We are learning provinces and territories in French (Le Canada). Students had to finish a title page "Le Canada" for last Friday. I haven't checked but will this week. They can draw a few things that represent Canada for them and color. There will be a test on being able to identify all 10 provinces and 3 territories on a map next Thursday Sept. 27th. Mme Schofield's homeroom will be going to the library next Wednesday to get French books. 4- Students have completed their "Je me présente" (soccer ball) and we started oral presentations today. Those who have not presented today will do it on Monday. 5- We have started reading comprehension with the different types of questions (repérage - answers are in the text; inférences (read between the lines) - students use clues in the text and their knowledge to find an answer) and réaction - students write their opinion or explain their answers). We will be going to the library tomorrow to get French books. 4- Sounds - This week's focus is "le son a". 5- Students will need to finish drawing and coloring their soccer ball "Je me présente" . Sentences for this will be done at school. They need to present to the class (probably starting Friday). Sciences Humaines : Title page on "Le Canada" to be done for Friday. Français 232 & 234 :
1- Spelling : Students have 5 spelling words to study for next Monday, Sept 17th. These words are written down in their "Les phrases" duo-tang. They can bring the duo-tang home any day of the week but it needs to come back to class everyday (to study words or complete sentences if they have extra time in class). 2- Sentences : Using their 5 spelling words, students have to write 5 sentences in their "Les phrases" duo-tang. At first, sentences will be short and simple and they should be. Use of dictionary is encouraged. These sentences will be collected every Wednesday to be checked. The spelling words are : (also use these words for weekly sentences) a) a b) à c) elle a d) il a e) elle aime 3- Sound : Every week, students will be given a new sound. This could be 1 letter or a group of letters representing a specific sound in French. This week, the sound is "a". They have a sheet in their "Les sons" for this letter. They should review the sound and read this sheet on a daily basis. If students forget the sound of the letter(s), they can always use "You tube" to hear the pronunciation of letter(s). 4- Reading: Students should read (in French) on a daily basis (10 minutes a day). Our library time is on Wednesdays every second week. This will be their first time at the library this week for French books. I encourage these books to go home. Students can also read in their "Les sons" duo-tang. Learning a new language takes time and effort. Students will be more successful in the immersion program if they practice at home (review, read, study, etc.). Sciences Humaines (Social Studies) 232 & 234: We will start will "Le Canada". We will be reviewing for the month of September and part of October. In mid-October or end of October, we will start "La culture" which is grade 6 curriculum. |
